Fridge Working But Freezer Not Freezing
This is a common split-symptom fault. The two compartments share a cooling system, so a fault in one part can affect them differently.
Most Common Causes
Faulty Evaporator Fan
The evaporator fan circulates cold air from the freezer into both compartments. If it fails, the freezer loses cooling before the fridge does. Replacement cost: £80–£140.
Blocked Defrost Drain
Ice buildup around the evaporator coil can restrict airflow and prevent the freezer from reaching temperature. A manual defrost (unplugging for 24 hours) sometimes resolves this temporarily.
Thermostat or Temperature Sensor Fault
A faulty thermostat may not call for cooling even when the freezer is too warm. Replacement cost: £70–£130.
Sealed System Fault
Refrigerant leak or compressor failure requires a Gas Safe engineer. Cost: £150–£350 depending on the fault.
