Clean the Condenser Coils
Condenser coils at the back or base of the fridge collect dust over time, reducing efficiency and causing the compressor to work harder. Vacuum them annually.
Check the Door Seals Regularly
Run your hand around the door edge with the door closed — you should feel no cold air escaping. Replace seals if cracked or loose.
Defrost Manually If Needed
Even frost-free models benefit from a manual defrost every 12 months if ice is accumulating.
Set the Right Temperature
Fridge: 1–5°C. Freezer: -18°C. Running colder than needed increases energy consumption and component wear.
Leave Space at the Back
Allow at least 5cm between the fridge and the wall for heat to dissipate from the condenser.
Replace the Water Filter
For American fridge freezers with water dispensers or ice makers, replace the filter every 6 months.
